Legislative Update: Observing Veterans Day this Wednesday, November 11th, 2015
On November 11, we will observe Veterans Day, recognizing the sacrifices of our military personnel. For generations, mostly young adults left their homes and families to live in dangerous situations, uncertain of their future. Yet they went - and continue to go. Not for the glory, but for the desire to serve and protect the United States. Many of us have family members who served, and their bravery resonates with all generations who follow.
I hope you'll take some time on Wednesday to attend one or more of the many events happening throughout Minnesota. No matter where you will be on Wednesday, there's no doubt that there will be an event nearby. For more on the official Minnesota Veterans Day observance, click here: Veterans Day 2015 Event List
As we honor those who served, it is important to remember that the battles don't end when they receive their discharge papers. Many veterans struggle to reintegrate into their former lives after their deployment ends. There are resources to help:
Minnesota National Guard - Beyond the Yellow Ribbon
Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans
Homeless Veteran Prevention and Assistance
Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs
Our veterans have earned our respect. Let's honor them not only on Veterans Day, but every day of the year.
As always, please don't hesitate to contact me with any thoughts or concerns you may have.
