Minnesota Legislature meets in special session to approve disaster relief
The Legislature is meeting today in a Special Session with the agenda to approve disaster relief to 18 counties that suffered major damages as a result of the Summer storms. The total damage was tallied at $18 million.
The way the financial relief will work: Minnesota is eligible for Federal funds up to 75% of the damages, if the State adds 25% of the funds. This means that $13.5 million will come from Federal sources, and Minnesota will participate with $4.5 million.
Funding the $4.5 million will come from unused disaster relief funds from prior recoveries in 2012 and 2013, so no new funds will have to be raised or voted on.
As has been Minnesotan's practice always, when a disaster strikes, we come together to help each other and make recovery faster and easier.
